Van Helsing
Overview
An old bandmate of Neon Drift’s from Van Life’s glory days — self-styled “monster hunter” type (per Neon Drift’s teasing), now working a straight job in a computer repair shop since the group’s collapse left him without wheels. Reached via a nearly-dead Van Life message board and met at the Early Bird Diner during Session 1.
Known Facts
- Confirms the arcology keys the crew is hunting are the exact same access codes that destroyed Van Life years ago — maintenance lanes, ramps, toll controllers, citywide access, all lost in one stroke (“getting burnt”).
- Believes REIS was expected to patch the exploit those keys use, but never did — takes this as a sign someone with influence wants it to stay open.
- Suspects Camper Van Beethoven, a former Van Life member who split off and “made it,” of possibly working with Rest Easy.
- References Van Life currently being “under” Van Morrison in some way that’s preventing the group from pooling resources and rebuilding.
- Still holds onto the old Van Life instincts (sitting with his back to the wall, watching every entrance) even though, per Neon Drift’s ribbing, “those days are dead.”
- Wants “wheels” again — a van of his own — someday.
Relationships
- Neon Drift — old bandmate/friend; gave him a lead on the keys and received gear (tech to make Van Buren more discreet) in return.
- Camper Van Beethoven — suspects him of colluding with REIS.
- Van Morrison — implies Van Life is currently under his control or in his debt.
Open Questions
- Is Camper Van Beethoven actually working with Rest Easy?
- What exactly does “under Van Morrison” mean for Van Life’s remaining members?
