Kessauer Dynamics
Also referred to in shorthand as “Kessar.” Created at the table by Feklars, the player of Speckz Arioso.
Overview
Kessauer Dynamics doesn’t own physical infrastructure — no apartments, no power plants, no roads. What it owns is Knight City’s data and coordination layer: the K-Net, an urban grid running stoplights, communications, and the general “keep the internet and security up” backbone of the city. Beneath it runs Daedalus, a subterranean AI system that acts as the city’s operating system — coordinating power distribution, water purification, traffic, maglev transit, and automated freight without necessarily owning any of the companies that provide those services directly.
The practical effect: Kessauer/Daedalus knows what’s going on and who’s using what, at any given time, across nearly all city infrastructure — and can throttle or cut a target’s access as leverage. The city has grown dependent enough on K-Net that going without it isn’t a realistic option for anyone.
Table floated (unresolved) that Daedalus might be a smaller, less capable subcontractor AI beneath a much larger singularity-level intelligence that effectively holds Knight City’s government mandate — see Knight City’s Government & Power.
Known Facts
- Owns/operates the K-Net (city communications/security/traffic backbone) and Daedalus (the coordinating AI beneath it).
- Does not own the underlying utilities/services it coordinates — leverage comes from control of the data layer, not the assets themselves.
- An unidentified party recruited Bullfrog during Session 1 to breach a Kessauer/K-Net interface system and pull a video data file, encrypted with a signature associated with NSMC — purpose unknown.
Open Questions
- Is Daedalus sentient, or purely functional? Table leaned toward “functional, not a sentient AI” but didn’t fully resolve it.
- Relationship (if any) between Daedalus and whatever entity holds Knight City’s nominal government mandate.
- Who wanted Bullfrog to breach the K-Net interface system, and why?
