Rontai
Muktar’s gladiatorial weapon from his time fighting in the NSMC Under Sector arenas as Ora — a large mining drill head on the end of a heavy chain.
Named on-screen for the first time in Session 2, when Muktar pledged it to Mara Sato’s freedom: “I pledge my Rontai, my gladiatorial weapon, to your freedom. I will ensure that you will not be fooled into fate again.”
Known Facts
- A repurposed mining drill bit — Under Sector equipment turned into an arena weapon — attached to a length of heavy chain.
- Carried wrapped around Muktar’s neck with the drill head hanging chest-high, clinking as he walks. It draws attention; when the crew arrived at the REIS Six parking garage, it got Muktar more eyes than anyone else in the crew — and prompted one of Iona Glass’s security men to whisper “is that Ora?”
- Pledging the Rontai appears to function as a personal oath for Muktar, not just a statement about carrying a weapon. In Session 3, Neon Drift held him to it (“you pledged your Rontai to save her”), and Muktar delivered on the pledge when Mara went free.
- Too conspicuous for close work. Muktar left it behind for the Session 3 breakout and fought with a shotgun and his claws.
Open Questions
- Is the pledge a formal Under Sector custom, or Muktar’s own invention?
- Does carrying it openly cost him anonymity in any mechanical sense as his profile as Ora rises?
